How do I check my network identification settings?

Follow these steps to check your computer, workgroup and computer description settings.

Note: Please check with your network administrator before changing any of these settings. You may require administrator rights to change them.

Check your network settings in Windows ME 

  1. Open My Computer
  2. Select Control Panel
  3. Double click Network control panel and select Identification
  4. Your Computer, Workgroup and Computer description fields are on this page tab 
  5. Click OK to save any changes

Check your network settings in Windows 2000 

  1. Right click My Computer icon and select Properties from the drop-down menu
  2. Select Network Identification
  3. Click Properties
  4. The Computer Name and Workgroup/Domain Name fields are on this page

Check your network settings in Windows XP 

  1. Right click My Computer
  2. Select Properties
  3. Click Computer Name tab
  4. The Computer description field is on this page tab 
  5. Click Change to change the Computer Name, Workgroup or Domain
  6. Click OK to save any changes

Check your network settings in Windows Vista 

  1. Right click Computer
  2. Select Properties
  3. The Computer description field is on this page at the bottom
  4. Click Change settings to change the Computer Name, Workgroup or Domain
  5. Click X to save any changes
